Kawhia / Raglan
fishing report
May 21, 2020
Well it’s great to get back out on the water, and as expected the fishing is all go with limit bags common on our first week back in action. There are plenty of pannies about, and good patches of smaller fish that are really good for that perfect eating size fillet.
Since being allowed back on the water, we have moved around and tried a few different depths, and found that last week fishing in 35 to 42 metres was steady, but not quite the money spot we wanted.
Bang on 52 metres was the honey hole, and we boated 45 fish in 45 minutes with our Covid friendly reduced passenger numbers and social fishing distancing.
Fish were all over the baits and not fussy on the flavour. All the fishing was off Taharoa.
Just in the past couple of days fishing has been amazing and we've been mixing it up a bit.
Fishing off the south-west reef (which is just south of gannet island in 60-70 meters) we have been catching a great mixed bag of species. Check out the photo, tarakihi, cod, kingies, jd's and limits of snapper! What more could you want?
We've also been fishing the fifty metre zone off Albatross Point with some very good success.
The weather looks like it's packing in a bit this weekend with 20 knots plus forecast, but should be clearing mid week, so give us a ring to book a place or two or we will see you out there.
Cheers
Rob
