fishing report
December 22, 2024
Snapper fishing remains strong with plenty of bycatch like gurnard, kahawai, and trevally, making for productive and exciting trips.
Hi Team,
Fishing is still going strong most days, with snapper yet to spawn—at least from what I’ve seen. While there have been the occasional slow days, overall, it’s been very good fishing.
There’s plenty of bycatch in the form of gurnard, kahawai, and trevally. Kahawai, in particular, have been showing up in large numbers on some days, which makes for an interesting time on the boat. Fishing in 30-40 metres has been good at times, but generally, 50 metres remains the honey hole. There’s some blue water moving into the 50-metre range, with very good signs showing.
On the boating front, please take extra care over the holiday period—it’s been a shocking year for boating-related deaths. Remember, the fish will still be there for your next trip; it’s not worth risking your life for. If you’re heading to a new area, make sure to seek local advice.
We’ll be fishing throughout the whole Christmas period.
Have a great Christmas, and stay safe.
