Fishing has been exceptional lately, with quick limits caught and great-sized snapper, trevally, and gurnard coming in from waters north of Albatross Point.

Fishing of late has been off the charts. Most days, limits are being caught in 1.5 to 2 hours. Some days the fish are straight onto the bait, while other times it takes 15-20 minutes before they go crazy. We’ve even been running two trips a day. The size has been great, with a few over 20 lb and lots of fish around 4-6 lb, with plenty of double hook-ups coming up too.

The good old barracouta strip baits seem to snag the bigger fish, probably because they’re a bit tougher, though bonito still has its place. If the snapper are a bit slower, there are gurnard around too. Trevally are coming up as well—pretty underrated as a table fish, to be honest. It makes me cringe when people say to cut it up for bait.

Most of the fishing for the past few weeks has been around 50-60 metres, just north of Albatross Point. The current water temperature is sitting around 17-18 degrees and very clear, and we’re starting to see a bit of bird and dolphin action too.
