Kawhia / Raglan
fishing report
August 11, 2023
Fishing is still pretty steady out west, winter snapper are in great condition.
We are enjoying very good catches for this time of the year, so if August is the low point in the season, things are trucking along very nicely.
We're seeing a lesser number of small fish, with the average catch being really nice fat snapper coming over the side, around eight to ten pounds.
By the time you have four or five of these there's a really good feed waiting after filleting is done.
There's the odd spiney dog and greys being caught but not in big numbers.
Very little in the way of other fish around, and the weather is certainly still a bit up and down, so chances of getting out are limited.
When we grab a window, the fishing in forty to fifty metres just south of Taharoa seemed to be the hot spot over the last few weeks.
Cheers
Rob
