Kawhia / Raglan
fishing report
October 7, 2021
First of all, a great story recently on the tagged kingfish that came from our own Gannet Island and travelled all the way to the sunny east coast of Australia to be recaptured and the data recorded.
Check out the story HERE
Just goes to show the value of tagging.
Fishing days have been very limited over the last little while due to either Covid restriction levels and the weather.
Getting out only twice in 14 weeks not great but we are moving into the crazy season for snapper and the weather must settle out soon.
About now we would start looking north of Kawhia up towards Gannet Island, probing the 50-60 metre zone and that should be the ticket.
The fish can be very patchy you are either on them or not.
As always, birds can help your cause as they are looking for a feed also.
Wait a good hour before changing places if you are catching a few, as generally they will come on the bite at some stage, and change of tide can also help.
There’s some really average weather coming our way for the next week or so, with only very short windows mostly mid week, so there could be the odd opportunity for the keen.
Weather can be very changeable at this time of the year and the systems can move pretty fast, so err on the side of caution or just come out with us 😉.
