Kawhia / Raglan
fishing report
August 7, 2020
Fishing opportunities are getting few and far between with the wintery weather patterns doing their thing to preserve the fishery and keep us fisho’s at bay for a bit! The best days always seem to be weekdays of course, and the last trip was absolutely stunning weather-wise, and you would be forgiven to think we were in the middle of November. Absolutely dead calm and hot!
The fishing was slow in the morning fishing in 53 meters, so we shifted out to 65, north of Albatross Point and bingo, snapper coming over the rail and a good mix gurnard, kahawai. We did find the odd spiny shark around but they were not too bad.
The snapper have been very light on the bite, and the most successful anglers were the ones that really fished well and struck every delicate bite.
These better anglers got their limit, while the rest did pretty well but were definitely just short of the try line.
Most bait worked well especially if it was fresh, and the good old frozen bonito and squid still did a good job too.
The weather is not looking that flash for the next little while, so it might be a few more days in the garden before we get another good run at it.
