The fishing has been going great with double limits common on the days we have two trips.
At the moment the twilight trips tend to be getting the bigger fish.
Fresh bait has been fishing well as it’s a bit tougher and can’t be picked off by the little guys.
Yes, we do have little fish out west also ;-) and they can often be a bit of a nuisance when you’re looking for a substantial pull on the rod.
The odd kingfish is been caught with a 16 kg model landed last week on a good old ledger rig.
A few gurnard and kahawai are in the mix as well.
We’re still fishing off the bar leads 45-50 meters and it’s pretty reliable.
Unlike many other locations in New Zealand, the full moon fishes well on our coast, as does the new moon which creates bigger tides and plenty of current.
The weather for the weekend is not looking too flash, and it appears to also be pretty average for the week ahead at this stage. Looking on the positive side, this will give the fish a break from us keen fishos, and keep the west coast producing the magic that it does when you do manage to get out there.
Cheers
Rob
