A mix of great and challenging fishing days off Marakopa with catches of snapper, gurnard, kahawai, and kingfish, and anticipates a promising marlin season ahead.

Hi team, and a Happy New Year to you all.

We've been quite active on the fishing front, enjoying some fantastic weather over the past month.

The fishing has been excellent, though in the last week, it's been a mix of great days and some challenging ones, which is typical for this time of year. However, we've recently found more fish further south, as is usual for this season. It's a bit of a journey, taking about 2 hours to reach the area off Marakopa, which spans from 10 to 50 meters deep, but it's definitely worth the trip. This spot should remain productive until April. Our main catches have been snapper, some sizable gurnard, kahawai, and the occasional kingfish.

On our last trip, we also spotted some tuna in the area, so we'll soon start pursuing them as well. The water temperature is around 20 degrees, but it's still quite green closer to shore. A few marlin have been caught further out, in the 100-200 meter range to the north of Raglan. It's still early for our local waters, but I think we're in for a great season ahead.

Cheer Rob.
