Kawhia / Raglan
fishing report
August 11, 2022
Although we have had some pretty crappy weather recently, when it’s turned nice it’s been just awesome. You gotta love the easterly wind which is not typical for this time of the year. Fishing August is generally not my pick for best month of the year, but weather and fishing have been on the boil, with limits of snapper most trips and done around lunch time.
There’s been some very solid fish, and not many smaller juveniles about, with most around the 40-50 cm mark.
Fishing has usually been on all day long, and getting 150 snaps in 3 hours at this time of the year is crazy.
There’s a few good gurnard in the mix also.
Coutta and spiney dogs are often the winter curse, but we’ve not been too bothered by them.
Start fishing around 60 metres, which seems the most consistent zone to be dropping a line.
Any bait seems to work, fresh couta or frozen is going great guns, and we have been saving a few of these and free flow freezing them.
Bonito also great, but squid not so much.
We have some really nice weather this weekend also and yes, we have spaces for those of you that are keen.
The Kawhia wharf has also be fishing well for kahawai have seen a few been caught great size just using bait on ledgers.
A couple of ladies there had 3 each the other day.
Tight lines and be careful out there.
Cheers
Rob
