Kawhia / Raglan
fishing report
June 10, 2022
Even though it can be wild at the moment, the weather does have windows of opportunity. A good case was last weekend and by crikey the fishing was on!
We enjoyed quickly limiting up by 1.00 pm both days with plenty of bendy rod action, mostly due to really good conditioned snaps in the 6-10lb range.
The very first drop on day two had a ten and a six pound double off the bat.
There’s also plenty of good bycatch available as we are in prime gurnard season, so the carrots can provide a good mix.
There’s nice winter trevally, and of course we always pick up a few kahawai.
Best baits seem to be the fish, bonito, fresh kahawai and baracoutta all working better than squid, which didn’t seem to be popular on the menu.
All this great fishing was happening 45 metres off Aotea Reef.
We did have a dabble on the reef on Sunday but not much action so it was back out to 45 metres and game on.
Weather looking very poor this weekend so the fish will be getting a break until later in the week.
Good luck and stay safe.
Cheers
Rob
