fishing report

Hope things are drying out up there or summer turns up some time soon. The weather has had an effect on us also, with customers not able to get through slips and flooding.
Some of the Coromandel fishers might have to try the west coast if they cant get up that way. It could be a solid option as more wind comes in from the east.
Our coast is still seeing some great bottom fishing.
Snapper are in great condition and biting their heads off.
We are catching limits pretty easily most days in only 1.5 to 3 hours, and the job is done.
The average size can be a bit up and down, but still good solid fish in the mix.
Undersize snaps are also about which can be a bit of a nuisance, so sometimes it pays to go to a bigger recurve hook when this is the case.
We are fishing some shallower water, so this may explain some of this as out in 50 to 60 the size is usually pretty good.
Kahawai can be in very good numbers also but they tend to fade after a bit.
If you remove the bling on your ledgers this seems to slow the kahawai bite...or you can always move on.
Fishing is happening in water from 30-50 meters south of Taharoa.
There is a lot of debris in the sea at present, from flax to full blown trees so take care out there.
The weather for the weekend is looking not to bad Saturday. Sunday would be the pick.
Not much to report on game fish at this stage as weather conditions haven't really allowed much to happen.
Cheers
Rob
