Kawhia / Raglan

fishing report

Just a brief report to confirm the fishing is still fantastic out here, as per our last report! There are still plenty of snapper about in the 30-40 metre zone off Marakopa, and the same applies off the Kawhia Bar, but they seem to be smaller fish than we are getting down south.

Kingfish are about, roaming out over the sand and ready to give you a surprise when you least expect it.

We have been getting a few solid kingfish while bottom fishing some are around that 15-20kg which is not bad on your good old snapper ledgers.

Fresh kahawai is the go-to, cut into strip baits.

The harbour will continue to fish well through to Easter based on all previous years experience.

Game fishing is still simmering away, with plenty of marlin seen and caught in 40-60 meters south of Albatross Point, so you don’t have to go far to find them.

At times there is plenty of bait workups around this area, so just hang out in these areas and the results will inevitably come if you have good looking lures in the water.

Cheers
