Great fishing out west.
Despite the weather being pretty ordinary by summer standards across the country, at least the wind is in from the east which suits us best.
On the days we have been able to get out to sea, we have had some epic missions.
The snapper are in full summer feeding mode, bulking up after spawning, and they are really on the chew.
Most trips now, we are fishing down towards Marakopa in 50-60 meters and getting limit bags easily within two to three hours.
There are plenty of donkeys to put a smile on the punters faces in there as well.
It’s pretty much all snapper, with not much in the way of bycatch, but some days the spiney dogs are making their presence felt for some strange reason, as this is a bit out of season for them.
The star bait has to be barracouta, fresh or frozen this is our new go-to bait hands down.
Mako sharks are taking their share of gear at times, but usually they are not much of a problem, and generally are a thrill to see for most people.
A few albacore tuna have turned up, but they are not really about in any good numbers yet.
The water temp is well up there, sitting around 20 degrees, and marlin have already been landed from out here, so it shouldn’t be too long before we see a bit more from the game fishing scene.
Happy new year cheers Rob
Cheers
