Snapper and gurnard are on the chew, with limits on the snapper coming most days very early in the afternoon, and very healthy numbers of gurnard to make for a good catch bag.

Kahawai are starting to show up as well, but not in big numbers. There's just enough for the smoker and they are a good size and in great condition.

The fish have been biting soft mind you. We are fishing in 60 plus metres you must have your eye on the game, otherwise they will rob you blind before you know it.

This means rod holder fishing is off the menu as a rule in case you are feeling lazy.

Bonito and squid are the flavour of the week, with fresh bait performing a bit on the slow side.

Happy to report spiny sharks are pretty minimal bother at present, only getting a few for a whole trip which is great.

We're starting to have the odd terakihi show up now, so keeping the baits and hook sizes down could help get a few more of these tasty guys on board.

Weather for the weekend is only ok, and next week is looking pretty crappy until at least end of the week.

We're still fishing 60 plus metres north of Albatross Point.

As one of the customers asked "Is that 120 feet?" I said "No it's 180 feet, so stick with 60 metres and it sounds not as deep!"

Cheers

Rob
